Mentoring
The Covington Mentoring Program hosted a luncheon on Tuesday, April 30. The event was a major success with more than 200 mentors, students, and staff attending in support of the program and to honor the 10 seniors and their mentors.
Covington Independent Public Schools Superintendent Lynda Jackson kicked off the event with a warm welcome and some inspiring data points about the academic strides that students have made in the past year in Covington, “We thank each of you for exploring this opportunity with Covington Partners and Covington Independent Public Schools and most importantly we hope to continue to help in building these meaningful relationships for years to come.”
Following that, each of the ten seniors shared a few memories about their time in the program and then gave a thank you card and gift to their mentor. Keyontae Winn and John Fisher have been matched for six years. Their favorite activities were going to the museum and playing and watching basketball. Having a mentor made Keyontae feel important and he appreciated the extra help that John gave him to have a better future. After graduation, Keyontae wants to go to Northern Kentucky University and someday start a sports merchandise business.
