October 16, 2014 - Covington Partners has
received a $50,000 grant from The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank
Foundation to continue the Community Learning Center (CLC) at Latonia
Elementary School.
Covington Partners, formerly Covington Partners in
Prevention, was founded in 1999 as a community coalition focused on reducing
drug abuse and violence among Covington youth.
Since that time, the organization has expanded to include programs and
services related to education, wellness, mentoring and family engagement. Programs and services are delivered through a
Community Learning Center model, seeking to transform school buildings into the
hubs of their community and coordinate the delivery of support services. Every aspect of the organization’s work is
focused solely on supporting the youth and families of Covington.
The Haile/U.S. Bank Foundation grant will be used to reduce
barriers to academic achievement for students by continuing to fund a Community
Learning Center at Latonia Elementary School.
During the 2013-2014 school year, over 330 students at Latonia
Elementary received support programs through the Community Learning
Center. By providing a variety of
activities such as academic enrichment, fitness, visual and performing arts,
mentoring and service learning; students will continue to get the extra support
they need to be successful in the classroom.
The grant will also be used to offer a variety of family and community
engagement opportunities. Programs and
services will be available both during the school day and afterschool.
