Did you know reading is a great stress reliever, is the fastest way to build vocabulary, and that reading just 20 minutes a day adds up to reading approximately 1,800,000 words per year?
Each year, National Read Across America Day, a day established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading, is celebrated on Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Like so many districts across America, on National Read Across America Day in Covington, students, teachers, parents, and community members will come together to read books and celebrate the joy of reading with guest readers, special projects, and lots of Dr. Seuss hats.
So whether you make a date with a book for Read Across America Day, attend a reading at a local library or bookstore, or have a Seuss-themed party with the family, don’t forget: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”- Dr. Seuss
