Student voice plays an integral role in successful out-of-school time programming. Crochet Club at the Holmes Middle School Bulldog Zone Community Learning Center is no different.
This club started as a simple idea with students voicing an interest in embracing a new skill. Ms. Teanna Salter (known to students as Ms. T), is an avid crocheter, having made items such as hats and scarves, as well as jackets. With the interest of students and talent of Salter, Crochet Club was born.
Salter is committed to teaching new learners the basics of crocheting and advanced learners new and creative ways to crochet.
Salter loves teaching the skill and is ecstatic about how far the students have already come in their practice. “It's a privilege to be able to teach young people a skill that has so much history behind it. I hope they can continue to learn and teach beyond me to keep this skill alive,” she said.
