'Cops & Bobbers' Marks Successful Year for Buddies with Badges
Throughout the school year, Covington Police Department staff are mentors to elementary students at Glenn O. Swing Elementary School and Ninth District Elementary School through the Covington Partners Buddies with Badges mentoring program.

To celebrate the end of the school year, the Covington Police Department planned a special "Cops and Bobbers" fishing excursion for the students. This month, they took their student mentees to Lake Victoria in Latonia, Kentucky, where they spent the day fishing, having lunch, relaxing, and chatting away.

Crime Scene Technician Susan Stadtlander says her favorite part of the day was “seeing officers connect with other students who weren’t their mentees. It felt like we were at a family reunion and everyone was enjoying each other’s company.” Stadtlander notes that “there weren’t many fish caught, but it was a wonderful experience” for all involved.

Detective Raven Cioca says she loves being part of the Buddies with Badges program and “being a positive influence for young girls while also humanizing the police. We need to lead our future in the right direction and it starts with being a good role model for the children in our communities.”

The officers cannot wait to see what next year brings.
