Erin Tomer is an outgoing, energetic senior at Holmes High School. A dedicated student with a 3.3 weighted GPA, she has been involved in numerous school clubs and activities including marching band, art, creative writing, and music lessons.
Excelling in school wasn’t always easy for Erin. She needed additional supports in math and English to keep her on track with her peers. Her grit and determination pushed her forward in spite of any obstacles that were placed in her way.
Not only is Erin a dedicated student, she also cares about her community. She participates in the Bulldogs Give Back program to support clean-up activities at school, babysits for neighbors so the parents can enjoy a night out, and mentors younger students at John G. Carlisle Elementary School through the work-based mentoring program at Holmes High School. In addition, Erin serves as a peer tutor in the special education room during the school day.
Erin makes sure to become friends with incoming freshman, as she remembers what it was like to be new to the school. It is important to Erin to help the younger students feel welcome and confident. Erin’s smile and positive attitude immediately puts people at ease.
“Erin is a gift to the school and the Covington community,” says Julie Wharton, mentoring coordinator at Holmes High School.
Despite Erin’s busy schedule, she finds time to work as a host at Applebee’s restaurant in Highland Heights.
Erin plans to go to college to become an elementary school teacher to give back to special education students that might need extra help like she did in school.
